Markaid
Markaid is a specially designed measuring scale for visually impaired people. It can be used universally by everyone as it gives perfect accuracy in both inches and centimeters.
About Visually Impaired

“Vision is one of the most important ways of receiving and interpreting information from the outside world. Blindness does come with a lot of challenges, considering most of the world is designed for sighted people. These people have to overcome things that most people take for granted.”

To help them overcome their limitations and to give them a chance to explore some new activities. To make them capable of handling new challenges. Help them develop new skills and open doors for more creativity.
Core Idea
I visited the school for the blind to understand the hurdles faced by the visually challenged. The inaccessibility of common items and tasks made me aware of the tremendous design limitations that everyday things like eating, using stationery, using currency, walking on different pathways, using technology and more, pose on the visually challenged.
Understanding these limitations and seeing how earning a living for them is a mammoth task made me realise, as a designer, the shortcomings in design that commonplace items have and how these can be improved to open new career options and make tasks more accessible to them.

Ideation

The idea behind the design was to create a universal scale that would add ease and safety to the lives of the user. It mainly targets the visually impaired and can also be used by others as well. People's common problems are cut on hand due to unexpected skid of the cutter or wobble of the pencil while marking the line. This scale solves these problems and also plays a great role in adding a new lifestyle activity for the visually impaired. Now, they can easily use this scale for measuring, marking, and cutting.
